Threads scheduler in 2026: how to schedule Threads posts for free, and when a tool is worth it

3 November 2026

Threads has a free scheduler in the composer three dot menu. How to use it step by step, where it stops (one profile, no week view, Threads only), five checks to run on any Threads scheduling tool, and a weekly routine built around replies.

If you are shopping for a Threads scheduler, check the composer you already use. Threads added its own scheduling option in January 2025, it is free, and for one account posting a few times a week it does the job. Most pages that rank for this search skip that part because they sell a tool.

This guide shows how to schedule a Threads post for free, where the built-in option stops, and five checks to run on any Threads scheduling tool before you pay. If you already know you want Threads in one calendar with your other networks, the Threads scheduler page has the short version of how Postlaty does it.

Threads' free scheduler, in short

Here is what Threads gives you without paying anyone:

  • In the Threads app and on the web, the three dot menu in the composer has a Schedule option. Pick a date and a time and the post waits until then.

  • Scheduled posts sit in your drafts, where you can open one to edit it or delete it before it goes out.

  • When Threads launched the feature, The Verge reported you could schedule up to 75 days ahead. That is plenty for a weekly batch.

  • Replies cannot be scheduled. Only new posts can wait in drafts, so conversations still happen live.

How to schedule a Threads post for free

It takes less than a minute, on your phone or on threads.com:

  1. 1

    Start a new post

Open the composer the way you always do, with the plus button in the app or the box at the top of your feed on the web.

  2. 2

Write it and add your media

A Threads post holds up to 500 characters. Add a photo or a video if the post needs one.

  3. 3

Open the three dot menu and choose Schedule

Pick the date and the time. Check the time zone your device uses, especially if your audience lives somewhere else.

  4. 4

    Tap Schedule again to confirm

The post moves to your drafts and publishes on its own at the time you picked. Open drafts afterwards to see it is there.

Where the built-in scheduler stops

The native option is a delay on the Post button for the profile you are logged into. That is fine until your setup grows:

  • One profile at a time. A founder profile and a brand profile means switching accounts and checking two sets of drafts.

  • No week view. Scheduled posts live in a drafts list, so a gap on Wednesday or two posts on Thursday morning are easy to miss.

  • Threads only. If the same idea also goes to Instagram, X, LinkedIn or Bluesky, you write it and schedule it again in every app.

If none of that is you, stop here and keep using the three dot menu. If two of those points describe your week, a tool starts to pay for itself in evenings you get back.

5 checks before you pick a Threads scheduling tool

Every scheduler now lists Threads on its pricing page. Run these five checks during the trial instead of trusting the logo:

  1. 1

It connects through Meta, not your password

You should see a Meta authorization screen for Threads. Then schedule a real test post and watch it go out on its own, without a reminder on your phone.

  2. 2

    Threads is its own connection

Threads and Instagram share a login family, but publishing to Threads needs its own approval. A tool that only connects Instagram is not a Threads scheduler.

  3. 3

It counts to 500, not to 2,200

A caption written for Instagram does not fit Threads. The composer should show the Threads limit for the Threads version of the post.

  4. 4

It tells you which media goes out

Tools differ on photos, videos and carousels for Threads. Schedule one post with a photo and one with a video, and look at what actually published.

  5. 5

The replies come back to you

Threads grows in the replies. Check whether the tool shows replies and mentions next to your other networks, or whether you still open the app for every conversation.

How Postlaty schedules Threads posts

I built Postlaty for founders who run their own accounts, so Threads works like every other network: approve the Threads connection once with Meta, then schedule from the same composer and calendar as the rest of your week.

Text, one image or one video

A Threads post can be text only, or carry one image or one video. If you attach several files for other networks, Threads gets the first one.

A caption for Threads

Switch to Different captions and the Threads box gets its own character count, checked against the 500 limit, next to a longer caption for Instagram or LinkedIn.

Replies and mentions in Inbox

Replies to your Threads posts and mentions of your profile come into the Postlaty Inbox, next to comments from your other networks.

Views, likes, replies, reposts

Published Threads posts show views, likes, replies and reposts, so you can see which ideas start conversations.

You can connect several Threads profiles, and each one is a channel you pick in the composer. Pricing counts channels in any mix of networks: 10 on Starter at $29 a month, 20 on Pro at $39 and 50 on Premium at $49. A founder Threads, a brand Threads, Instagram and X are four channels on Starter. Postlaty has a 7-day free trial, and the details are on pricing. If the same Reel goes to Instagram and Threads, the guide on scheduling Threads and Instagram together covers that pair step by step.

A weekly Threads routine built around replies

A scheduler keeps the account posting. Replies are what grow it. This routine uses the first for the second:

  1. 1

Write five posts in one sitting

One lesson, one number from your business, one opinion, one question and one behind the scenes photo. Under 500 characters each, most of them far under.

  2. 2

End most posts with something to answer

A real question, a choice between two options, or a claim people will want to push back on. A post with nothing to reply to rarely travels on Threads.

  3. 3

Schedule for your audience, not for you

Spread the five posts over the week at hours your readers are awake. If they live in another time zone, schedule for theirs.

  4. 4

Block 15 minutes after each post

Replies cannot be scheduled, so be there when the first ones come in. Answering early is the part no tool does for you.

  5. 5

    Reuse the winner

The post with the most replies becomes next week's X post or LinkedIn post, rewritten for that network.

I grow accounts for a US audience without living in the US, and I run the same playbook on Threads as on TikTok and Instagram. The setup is in how I grow US accounts from abroad. For X, the free option is in the Twitter scheduler guide, and for the open networks, see cross posting to Bluesky and Mastodon.

What stays in the Threads app

A few things you still do in Threads itself, whichever way you schedule:

  • Polls, carousels of several photos and multi post threads are made in Threads. Postlaty schedules single posts with text, one image or one video.

  • Replying live. Neither Threads nor any tool schedules replies, so the conversation part of the week stays yours.

  • If you post the same file to Threads and Instagram, keep it to one image or one video so both networks get the same thing.

The bottom line

To schedule Threads posts for free, use the three dot menu in the Threads composer. It covers one profile, posts up to 500 characters and your media, and it costs nothing. Pay for a Threads scheduler only when you run several profiles, want a week view, or post the same ideas to other networks every week, and run the five checks above during the trial. See how Postlaty handles Threads on the Threads page and every other network on channels.
