How to schedule a LinkedIn multi image post (and when a PDF carousel is better)

8 November 2026

LinkedIn carousels usually mean a PDF. A multi image post is different: several photos as one share, including on a Company Page that cannot schedule multi photo posts natively. Here is how to queue the photo set in Postlaty, and when to stay with a document carousel.

Search "LinkedIn carousel" and most results mean a PDF. You design slides in Canva, export a document, upload it as a document post, and LinkedIn turns each page into a swipe. That format is real, and it is useful when every slide carries its own headline. It is also the wrong tool when you simply want several photos in one post: product shots, event photos, before and after stills, or four screenshots of the same feature.

This guide separates those two formats. It shows how a multi image LinkedIn post works in Postlaty (including on a Company Page, which cannot schedule multi photo posts natively), when a PDF document is still the better choice, and how to schedule the photos without confusing them for a designed deck. For the free built-in scheduler and its limits, keep the free LinkedIn scheduling guide open next to this one. The short product version lives on the LinkedIn page.

Two formats people call a LinkedIn carousel

LinkedIn does not use one word for both, but buyers do. Clearing the names up front stops you from picking the wrong upload path, and it stops a sales page from selling you a PDF workflow when you only have JPEGs.

A multi image post is several photo files attached to one share. LinkedIn shows them as a swipeable photo set. In Postlaty the publisher labels that share a CAROUSEL category when more than one image is attached and there is no video. A PDF document post is one PDF file uploaded as a document. Each page becomes a slide with your designed text on it. That is the format most "carousel" templates are built for, and Postlaty does not upload PDFs.

Multi image post

Several photo files on one share. Best for product shots, event photos, before and after stills, and screenshot sets where the photo is the content.

PDF document post

One PDF uploaded as a document. Best when every slide needs a headline, a short paragraph, or a chart baked into the artwork.

Video post

A single video file. If the scheduled post includes video, Postlaty publishes it as a video share, not as a photo carousel. Keep the two formats in separate posts.

Why the mix-up hurts

A PDF of screenshots is heavier to edit and often looks soft on mobile. A multi image post of text-heavy slides forces people to pinch and zoom. Match the format to the content, not to the buzzword.

If your brief says "make a carousel," ask which asset already exists. Four camera stills point to a multi image post. A designed six-page deck points to a PDF. Trying to force one into the other is how posts look soft, cut off, or oddly cropped on a phone feed.

What LinkedIn lets you schedule natively

LinkedIn's free clock icon covers a lot, and it costs nothing. According to LinkedIn help, a personal profile can schedule from 10 minutes to 3 months ahead. A Company Page can schedule from 1 hour to 3 months ahead. That is enough for most founders who post text or a single image from their own profile.

The catch for this article is the Page format list. Posts with multiple photos are among the formats a Page cannot schedule natively. Events, reshares, polls, jobs and service posts sit on that list too. So if you are an admin who wants four product photos to go out Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Company Page, the free scheduler will not take that post. You either post by hand at 9:00 AM, or you use a tool that can attach several images to a scheduled Page share.

Photos you can attach in Postlaty for LinkedIn

Personal profiles have more freedom for multi photo posts in LinkedIn itself. The Company Page gap is where most teams feel the pain: the brand wants a scheduled photo set, and the free queue refuses it. That is the gap this guide fills with Postlaty.

How to schedule a LinkedIn multi image post in Postlaty

Connect LinkedIn once, pick your personal profile or a Page you admin, then build the post in Create. The publisher uploads each attached image and, when there is more than one image and no video, sends the share as a CAROUSEL category post. You do not toggle a special "carousel mode." The attachment list decides the share type.

  1. 1

    Connect the right LinkedIn account

Use the Allow popup and choose your personal profile or a Company Page you administer. Connect both if you post as founder and as the brand; each one counts as its own channel against your plan limit.

  2. 2

Attach the photos (up to four for LinkedIn alone)

In Create, the composer accepts up to four files when Instagram is not in the selection (ten when Instagram is included). Put the strongest still first. People often see that tile before they swipe.

  3. 3

    Write the caption for LinkedIn

LinkedIn allows up to 3,000 characters. Put the hook in the first two lines. If the same idea also goes to X or Threads, switch on Different captions so each network gets a length that fits.

  4. 4

    Pick the time and schedule

Choose the weekday morning that matches your audience, not only your own time zone. The post sits in Upcoming until the publisher sends it. Comments on the live post can come back into Inbox after you reconnect LinkedIn on the current app.

Need the image itself? Generate stills in Create with the image models on your plan (Recraft, Flux, Seedream, Nano Banana Pro, Grok Imagine, and the others listed in the Generate panel), then attach the finished files. You do not need a separate design tool for a simple four-photo product set. Keep AI stills and camera stills in separate posts when the story is different; mixing a product shot with a generated abstract often looks like two brands collided.

When you also schedule the same idea to X or Threads, treat LinkedIn as the long caption and the other networks as short cuts. Different captions is not optional marketing language. It is how you avoid pasting a 1,200 character founder essay into a 280 character box.

When a PDF carousel is the better tool

Postlaty does not upload LinkedIn document posts. That is deliberate: the multi image path covers photo sets, and a designed PDF is a different craft. Stay in LinkedIn (or your design tool plus LinkedIn) when any of these is true.

  • Every slide needs a headline, a short paragraph, or a chart baked into the artwork. Swiping photos will not carry that text cleanly.

  • You already have a brand template in Canva or Figma and the deck is the asset, not a set of camera stills.

  • The post is a checklist, a framework, or a numbered lesson where each page stands alone when someone screenshots it.

  • You need more than four designed pages in one swipe. A PDF document post can carry a longer lesson than a four-photo set.

If you only have four JPEGs from a shoot, do not force them into a PDF. Upload them as a multi image post. You keep full resolution, you can replace one photo without rebuilding a deck, and a Company Page can schedule the set in Postlaty even though LinkedIn's own queue refuses multi photo Page posts.

A practical rule: if you would still understand the post with the caption removed, use photos. If the post collapses without the text on each slide, use a PDF. That rule alone cuts most of the wrong-format uploads.

A simple weekly photo set routine

Multi image posts work best when the set tells one story. Dumping a whole camera roll into a single share feels busy and reads as noise. Use this as a Sunday prep habit, then let the calendar fire during the week.

  1. 1

Pick one story with four beats

Example: problem, product screen, customer result, soft CTA. Four photos, one caption. Avoid dumping a whole camera roll into a single share.

  2. 2

    Order the tiles on purpose

First tile is the scroll stopper. Last tile is the takeaway or the face of the person behind the product. Middle tiles carry proof.

  3. 3

Schedule the Page and the profile separately when needed

A founder take and a brand photo set are two posts. Connect both LinkedIn accounts and give each its own time so the feed does not feel like a duplicate.

  4. 4

    Reuse the best still elsewhere

One photo from the set often becomes an X or Threads post with a shorter caption. Adapt it. Do not paste the full LinkedIn essay into a short box.

Shoot with the set in mind

When you know you need four beats, you shoot four beats. A random gallery rarely becomes a clean swipe without cropping fights.

One idea per post

If you have two stories, schedule two posts on two days. Mixing launches and hiring photos in one swipe confuses the feed.

Skip the filler tile

Three strong photos beat four when the fourth is a soft logo slide. Empty space in the set is fine. Weak tiles are not.

Founders who post both as themselves and as the Page should stagger times. A brand photo set at 9:00 AM and a personal take at 11:30 AM reads as two voices. The same assets five minutes apart reads as spam from one person with two logins.

Limits to know before you queue the post

These limits come from the Postlaty composer and the LinkedIn publish path. They are the ones that surprise people after they already wrote the caption.

  • Composer limit: up to four media files when Instagram is not selected, up to ten when it is. For a LinkedIn-only multi image post, plan on four photos.

  • If any attached file is a video, the LinkedIn share is published as VIDEO, not as a photo carousel. Keep photo sets and video posts separate.

  • No PDF or document upload in Postlaty. Polls, events, newsletters and document posts stay in LinkedIn.

  • Comments on your LinkedIn posts can appear in Inbox after reconnect. Member DMs are a LinkedIn partner feature, so they are not in Postlaty. Personal and Page analytics load after reconnect on the current LinkedIn app.

  • Pricing counts channels in any mix: Starter 10 channels at $29 a month, Pro 20 at $39, Premium 50 at $49, with a 7-day free trial on every plan. Your LinkedIn profile and Company Page are two channels.

If you are comparing tools, ask whether "LinkedIn carousel" means PDF upload, multi image upload, or both. Many pages use the word for a PDF workflow only. Postlaty's scheduled multi image path is the photo set. Document carousels stay native.

The bottom line

Call it a carousel only after you know which format you need. Several photos belong in a multi image post you can schedule from Postlaty, including on a Company Page. A text-heavy swipe deck belongs in a PDF document post inside LinkedIn. Connect the account, attach up to four stills, write the LinkedIn caption, and schedule the time once.

Start with one real Page photo set this week. If the free LinkedIn queue refuses the multi photo format, that is your proof the paid slot is doing a job the clock icon cannot. See the full LinkedIn behavior on the LinkedIn page, compare every network on channels, and start a 7-day free trial from pricing if you want to test a real Page photo set before you pay.
